The Ashanti Region Secretariat of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it made frantic efforts to resolve the skirmishes that erupted between ousted Member of Parliament for Fomena Constituency Andrew Amoako Asiamah and the party but to no avail.

The party said the MP was bent on going independent, hence the decision by the national leadership to expel him from the party.

A statement from the party which was signed by the General Secretary, John Boadu, said “the Party has noted that the Member of Parliament for the Fomena Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Amoako Andrew Asiamah, who was elected to Parliament on the ticket of the Party, has filed to contest as an Independent Parliamentary Candidate. By doing so, he has presumably vacated his Seat in Parliament pursuant to Article 97(1)(g) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic”.

The statement indicated that the Party has taken steps to inform the leadership of Parliament for the appropriate actions to be taken.

Also, the party warned that any member of the party who will support an independent candidate in their campaign will also lose their membership of the party.

Reacting to the issue on Wednesday, October 14 on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa hosted by Anokyewaaba Serwaa and Nana Okyere Awurukuo from Ashaiman Market, the Ashanti Regional Secretary, Sam Pyne, said in Twi that “they tried resolving the issue with him but to no avail”.

He explained that as a regional executives and the party, in general, they did not want what has transpired by “his action could affect the party in Fomena or otherwise”.
