Facebook and Instagram users worldwide experienced a difficulty in accessing their accounts as of 4:15 pm GMT on March 5, 2024.
The reason for the inability to access accounts is not yet known. However, users said they were booted out of the system and could not log into their accounts.
Communications team member for Meta, Andy Stone responding to the matter in a tweet said “we’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
According to meta’s website, there are more than 300,000 reports of outages for Facebook and about 40,000 reports for Instagram.
The outage is now amongst the top trends on X, formerly Twitter, with several users saying they had suddenly been logged out of the Meta-owned social media platforms.
Below are reactions of Facebook and Instagram users after the shutdown.
