An Accra High Court has sentenced former board chair of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie, to six years in prison with hard labour.

Two others, former Director General of NCA William Mathew Tevie, and a former Deputy National Security Coordinator on the NCA Board, Alhaji Osman Mimina, were each given five years in prison with hard labour.

Justice of the Court of Appeal Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, who sat in as addition High Court judge, found them guilty of causing financial loss to the state to the tune of $4 million.

One other accused, George Derek Oppong, a businessman whose company served as an agent for the purchase of the communication equipment which was in contention, was, however, acquitted and discharged.

The court held that the state could not provide enough evidence against the businessman and whatever illegality that went on during the deal were orchestrated by Baffoe-Bonnie, William Tevie and Osman.

The Court has also ordered the Attorney General to seize property of the three convicted persons worth $3 million.
