The Wesley Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association has congratulated Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, JSC, upon her nomination as the next Chief Justice.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Justice Torkornoo will become the next Chief Justice on Wednesday, May 24, when current Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah proceeds on retirement.

She was nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a letter dated Tuesday, April 25 to the Council of State.

Per a recommendation of the Council of State and subsequent acceptance by President Akufo-Addo, she will be vetted by Parliament before being sworn in.

“The WGHS Old Girls’ Association and the entire staff and students of the school take this opportunity to congratulate Her Ladyship for this great achievement,” a press statement issued by National President Effie Simpson said.

“Having been enrolled in the school as Gertrude Sackey in 1973 and graduating in 1978, the nominated CJ will bring to the position, the rich tradition of academic excellence that WGHS is famous for.”

If sworn in, Justice Torkornoo will be the third old girl to assume this office. Her Ladyship Georgina Theodora Woode, who made history as Ghana’s first female Chief Justice, and Her Ladyship Sophia Akuffo are also old girls of the school.

The Association expects this feat to inspire current and past students “to strive for greater heights in their studies and in their chosen fields of endeavour”.

Justice Torkornoo was admonished by her school mates to continue to serve humanity in humility.
