The Old Students Association of West Africa Senior High School (WASSOSA) has expressed displeasure at the manner in which the Ghana Education Service (GES) is going about a mere administration process.

WASSOSA National President Dr David Ako Odoi says old students may consider the option of meeting with GES over the viral post signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum-Ampofo, announcing the interdiction of the headmistress, Shine Agatha Ofori.

“How could an administration process be done in such a way that this person’s reputation could be that hurt,” Dr Ako Odoi complained.

‘What about if at the end of the investigation, we find out that she is not culpable?”

The old student shared these sentiments on TV3‘s Ghana Tonight on Thursday, July 20.

It comes in the wake of the interdiction of Mrs Agatha Ofori, the headmistress, for allegedly collecting unauthorised monies from students.

Dr Ako Odoi explained that the monies in question were decided by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and subsequently had the board’s notice.

He said the board, which has a representative from GES, duly approved the fees.

“The school as an entity cannot impose any fees unless it is approved by GES but the PTA has a leeway and I think that was what was used.”

He described as “unfair” the recent development on the interdiction of the headmistress.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called for the immediate reinstatement of the headmistress.

National President Angel Carbonu said the problem goes beyond a single school for a head to be sanctioned.

“We are calling for the reinstatement of the headmistress of West Africa SHS because the problem is bigger than the incident that occurred in WASS.”
