The 2020 West African Senior Schools Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) begins today, Monday, July 20. It begins with the Project Work for Visual Arts candidates. Science students will also follow next with their practicals before the theory examinations begin on Monday, August 3. This year’s WASSCE has been the most talked about as a result of the era it is being written. The country, and, indeed, the world as a whole is battling a deadly viral disease, coronavirus. In the wake of this viral disease came the shutdown of schools across the world. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo decreed the closure of all schools on Sunday, March 15, three days after the country recorded its first two index cases. But after three months, President Akufo-Addo announced a “phased approach” to easing restrictions that were imposed on the country in efforts to curb the spread of the virus. Final-year students across the educational divide were asked to return to school from Monday, June 15 to complete their academic work and sit their respective examinations. Senior high school (SHS) final-year students were joined by second-year students on the Gold Track. Barely after a month of reopening, the final year students are starting their promotional examinations to tertiary institutions. The exams is scheduled to end on September 5 with Principles of Cost Accounting and Technical Drawing.
