WASS inch closer to maiden NSMQ final

West Africa Senior High School bettered their performance from last year by making it to the semi-final of this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz. WASS beat Tamale Senior High School and Kumasi Senior High and Technical School on Saturday to book a place in the penultimate round of the contest. Contestants Saahene Arkoh and Abdul Hameed led from Round One till the end of the contest, Tamasco, albeit, winning more points in the Problem of the Day. WASS led the first round with a score of 25 points ahead of Kumasi SHTS (19) and Tamasco (16). Round 2 saw the Adenta-based school open a 10-point gap on 34 points with Tamasco leapfrogging Kumasi SHTS, who were deducted points, in second position. The Northern Region school bagged six points points from a possible 10 in the Problem of the Day with WASS and Kumasi SHS bagging three points each. WASS recovered to win the fifth and final rounds to book a place in Monday’s semi-finals. They amassed a total of 59 points with Tamale SHS and Kumasi SHTS trailing them in that order on 43 and 23 points respectively. WASS will await their semi-final opponents to be determined later in the day. Holy Child School, St Margaret Mary SHS and Krobo Girls’ SHS will battle in the next quarter-final contest while defending champions Prempeh College will try to scale past Accra Academy and Islamic SHS in the final quarters challenge.
