The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has commissioned its Innovation and Incubation Hub.

The first of its kind at the University of Ghana, the Hub is expected to help nurture and harness entrepreneurial ideas from students from across faculties.

In his welcome address, Dean of the School Professor Justice Bawole underscored the importance of the Hub, to be known as UGBS Nest, indicating that it is going to help in putting into practice the theories taught in the lecture halls.

He said a boot camp will be held later in the year for the thousands of students of the School to further the idea of innovation and incubation.

He said already plans are far advanced to have a digital innovation hub to complement the current brick-and-mortar facility at the School.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development of the University, Professor Felix Ankomah Asante, lauded UGBS for the project, stressing it comes just when the University had passed an innovation act.

“My wish is to see every school have an innovation hub,” he adjured, pointing out that most great things done in the world started with an innovation hub.

In a speech read on his behalf, Managing Director of AMG Limited, sole funders of the project, Ernest Akwasi Appiah admitted that building the next crop of entrepreneurs is key to building the economy of the country.

He, therefore, urged students and faculty to take advantage of the hub “to help build the future of student enterprises”.

The hub will not only be for students of UGBS but open to all students of the University of Ghana community.
