Some students of the University for Development Studies (UDS) have been asked in their end of trimester exams to explain why dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, recently described Ghana as a village. The Fundamentals of Human Geography Paper of the Department of Environment and Resource Studies required students to use “their knowledge in development problems of villages to state five relevant reasons why Shatta Wale described the whole Ghana as a village” This comes on the back of Shatta Wale’s recent comments in London during his Reign Album tour describing Ghana as a village and asking the audience to repeat after him. The controversial dancehall artiste had paused mid-way in his performance to make the commentary and has since gone viral. His description of the country did not go down well with a section of the public who took to social media to register their displeasure about the Gringo Hitmaker’s comments. But unfazed Shatta Wale responded to his critics with suggestions that Ghana is dirty and does not have basic facilities like roads, hospitals and schools, insisting Ghana is a village. He eventually announced a clean-up exercise to help tidy the country upon his return. When the issue surfaced in the UDS papers, Shatta Wale took to Facebook to tout himself a professor.
