Lecturers and non-teaching staff of the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies have protested against management of the school.

They want their 13-month salary arrears paid.

They have given management of the school a one-week ultimatum to respond to their demands.

The University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies at Bunso is a private school.

Lecturers and non-teaching staff say non-payment of salaries have affected their livelihoods and access to health care.

Agboyie Richard is a Senior IT Technician for the school.

“For over 12 months, we haven’t been paid,” he complained.

“We can’t access NHIS because it’s connected to our SSNIT. Our dependants are suffering as well, coupled with the Covid-19 crises.”

They intend petitioning the Chancellor of the school, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin to address the matter and as well appeal to government to absolve the school from collapsing.

“Management of the school have failed. We give them a week to give a favourable solution to us or we petition Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin. Even if government can absolve it, we would be happy, else the school may collapse.”

Students of the school are worried their fate hangs if the crises of the school continues.

Students Representative Council (SRC) Secretary Gbefa Isabella explained, “We had to sweep and clean the classrooms ourselves when the non-teaching staff went on strike.

“We can’t continue to do it anymore for over weeks. Our lecturers before closure of schools were on and off because they said they haven’t been paid.”
