Former champions Pope John’s Senior High School and Seminary could not go past a second lifeline to go further in this year’s National Science and Math quiz as they exited in the one-eighth stage on Friday. Pojoba jumped to the lead in Round 1 but lost it to trail behind their Eastern Region rivals Koforidua Senior High and Technical School and even behind TI Ahmadiyya SHS in the following round. But the Daasebre boys climbed above TI AMASS from Round 3 – Problem of the Day – howbeit could not catch up with Mmarima Mma. At the end of the contest, Sec Tech had 39 points followed by the 2001 champions with 31 points and AMASS Phobia placed third with 25 points. The loss for Pojoss comes as the second in this year’s competition after they lost to St Francis Xavier Junior Seminary in the preliminary round. They only qualified as one of the 18 best losers. The contest continues on Saturday with last year’s losing finalists St Thomas Aquinas taking to the stage in the last contest of the day. They will face Kumasi Anglican SHS and Sekondi College. Earlier in the day, Jachie Pramso SHS, who ousted Pojoss last year, will face Fijai SHS and St Peters while Wesley Girls’ SHS face Twene Amanfo SHTS and Winneba SHS.
