School authorities at Nkenkaasu Senior High School have lamented the lack of infrastructure at the school to meet the growing demands of students.
Headmaster Francis Yata says the absence of a library facility and other infrastructure is having a negative toll on academic activities in the school.
The school was absorbed by the government in 2010 but it is yet to benefit from any infrastructure development from government.
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) has for the past eight years supported the school with some infrastructure such as classroom and dormitory blocks.
But Mr Yata notes the current infrastructure is inadequate.
“Our student population is growing especially with the implementation of the free SHS [policy] but no additional infrastructure has been added by the government. The PTA has been doing its best to put up some infrastructure but it does not meet the growing number of students. Very worrying is the absence of a library facility. Also, inadequate dormitory block has compelled us to de-boardinize most of our students.”
The school was also challenged with absence of electricity but the Member of Parliament for Offinso North Constituency, Augustine Collins Ntim, has lobbied to get electricity extended to them.
At a ceremony to officially inaugurate the connection of electricity to the school, Mr Ntim was optimistic the electricity will improve teaching and learning in the school.
School authorities are of the view that the provision of power to the school will reduce their financial burden to fueling their generator set on daily basis.
The MP, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, also donated a 40-seater Benz bus to the school to ease their transportation difficulty.
Akumadan SHS & Wiafe Akenteng SHTS
In a related development, Mr Ntim has cut sod for the construction of a girls’ dormitory block and a toilet facility at Akumadan Senior High School.
The Deputy Minister also visited the Wiafe Akenteng Senior High Technical School, where he cut sod for the construction of a 12-unit classroom block to bridge their infrastructure gap.
