The Atsia M/A Primary School at Ejisu Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region, has over the years received its share of the national neglect as pupils there precariously attend classes in a dilapidated structure.
Atsia M/A Primary School structure is one of the oldest basic schools in the Assembly, which was established in 1940’s and has produced many graduates who are contributing their quota to the development of the nation.
It currently has a student population of 530, including those in kindergarten.
According to the headmaster of the school, Mr Felix Anokye, the school is now struggling to re-roof the building after a rainy storm brought down its roof. Some of the classrooms have however been re-roofed with the support of some benevolent individuals.
The present condition of the school building has left pupils and teachers to be subjected to untold hardship, and the headmaster is begging for urgent attention to get the school renovated and befitting for studies.
The Assemblyman for the electoral area, Charles Antwi told 3news.com the school has been painted just once since its establishment.
He said numerous complaints about the weak nature of the school building by the school management and other stakeholders to the Ghana Education Service and the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have fallen on deaf ears.
The plight of the school came to light when some students pursuing Msc Development Management Programme at the Institute of Distance Learning, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), donated some learning materials and sandals (50 pairs) to the Atsia M/A Primary School as part of their social enterprise project.
The learning materials included 20 packs of pencils and books
The group is made up of Bernice Dapaah, Charles Kofi Enchill and Kwabena Twumasi Sampeney.
They hoped the gesture will help improve the quality of education in the school and encourage attendance.
Mr Charles Kofi Enchill, one of the student pursuing Msc Development Management Programme at KNUST appealed to philanthropists to offer similar social support to help the development the nation.
