Ecobank Ghana has taken full responsibility to cater for medical school expenses of a brilliant but needy student, Emmanuel Ayine Akannae with some GHȻ13,000. This will enable him attend to study medicine at the University for Development Studies,Tamale in the Northern Region. The sponsorship package comes after TV3’s report on the promising young student’s results from Navrongo Senior High School in the Upper East region. Emmanuel Ayine excelled with distinction in the 2017 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with 8As in all core and elective subjects. But for the intervention of Ecobank, the economic circumstances of his parents, who are peasant farmers would have shattered his dream of becoming a medical doctor. Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director of Ecobank, the Tamale Branch Manager of the bank, Abdul-Latif Bavug indicated that Ecobank believes in empowering the youth of Africa through quality education no matter their economic circumstances. He emphasised the bank’s key interest in empowering African youth through education by offering scholarship packages to needy but brilliant students. Mr. Bavug advised Ebenezer Ayine to always remember his background and concentrate on his academics to motivate his colleagues back home. “Studying hard and remaining focus will let the young ones in your community deepen their quest to further their education to the highest level,” he advised. Emmanuel Ayine expressed his joy and happiness for the support extended to him by Ecobank. He also thanked TV3 for telling his story, which has landed him a scholarship to further his education at the tertiary level. He disclosed that his effort would have been meaningless had it not been TV3’s report on his plight that caught the eyes of management at Ecobank. Emmanuel Ayine was also handed a brand new laptop as part of his scholarship package. Meanwhile, he has already reported to the Medical School of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale awaiting matriculation to fully begin his studies.
