The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service has charged the proprietor of the Prince of Peace Junior High School in Tamale, Northern region for not registering some 75 students of the school to take part in this year’s BECE.
The proprietor, Sulemana Saeed was charged with defrauding by false pretense by the police CID for taking GHS 500.00 each from the students as registration fees, but failed to register them for the examination.
Information available to TV3 indicates that 20 students have far given their statements to police and the accused will be arraigned before court Wednesday, June 6, 2018.
Meanwhile, a visit to the school premises by TV3’s news team indicates the Prince of Peace JHS is a remedial school which runs classes for only prospective candidates under the guise of a Junior High School.
The school looked deserted with refuse littering around when the team visited the school on Tuesday morning.
There was no sign of students, teachers to indicate that school was in session.
Only one classroom among the four dilapidated structures on the school compound had steel desks and a blackboard.
Stephen, a student who lives within the area where the school is situated told the reporter that students of the school come in mufti.
He added, “classes starts at 8:00 am and closes at 12 noon, and it is for only those who wants to write BECE”.
“I was here on Sunday reading with some of the students when Sulemana Saeed came to tell the students that some of them weren’t registered, it nearly became a fight between him and the students”, Stephen stated.
The Prince of Peace Junior High School is said to have only two teachers, Sulemana Saeed himself and a head mistress whose name was not disclosed.
