Prempeh College won the 2017 edition of NSMQ[/caption] The draw for the 1/8th stage of the 2018 National Science and Maths quiz was held on Saturday after the end of the preliminary round. The stage will see the seeded schools join the action. Eighteen preliminary round losers also joined with the 36 winners all drawn in Saturday’s balloting at the University of Ghana, Legon, where the quiz is being held. Prempeh College will begin a defence of their title on Wednesday, June 27 when they face Saviour SHS and St Francis Xavier Junior Seminary, who apparently beat former winners Pope John’s SHS in the preliminary round. But POJOBA’s third-place ranking on the losers’ log qualified them to the next round. They will, however, have another difficult hurdle to cross as they were drawn against regional rivals Koforidua Secondary Technical and TI Ahmadiyyah of Fomena. St Thomas Aquinas, losing finalists last year, will begin their campaign against Anglican SHS and Sekondi College. Record champions Presbyterian Boys’ SHS, Legon will battle Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ and Presby SHS, Nkwatia for a place in the quarter-finals. Mfantsipim School will also face a girls’ school, Bolgatanga Girls’ SHS, and Nandom SHS in one of the first one-eighth stage encounters on Monday.
