Alice Apole, 64, a resident of Bongo in the Upper East Region, says until her son, who was picked up by the National Security is released, she will continue on the hunger strike to register her displeasure.
Simon Ayamga, a post-graduate Emergency Nursing Student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been in the grips of National Security since Wednesday.
His arrest was triggered by a supposed comment he put on a WhatsApp platform, threatening to set the apex court ablaze.
Speaking on Akoma FM‘s morning show GhanAkoma on Monday, February 15, senior brother of the victim Daniel Aveam told host Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin that the family has been refused to see their relative in custody.
“After we heard the arrest, we made it to the National Security headquarters but we were refused to see him.”
He further said “our 64-year-old mother has since been on hunger strike after she heard the arrest of her son by the National Security Operative”.
“Our mum has refused to eat, sometimes we will have to force her before she takes in water and she’s been crying since.”
He further appealed to authorities for mercy on his junior brother to be released.
Wife of Simon Ayamga Eunice Adongo, a tutor at Sandema Senior High Technical School, couldn’t hold back her tears while recounting her experience after her husband’s arrest.
She explained that “my husband called me with a private number last Friday that he has been arrested and since been in National Security custody. That was the last time I heard from my husband”.
A sobbing Eunice Adongo added that “our first born who is 12 years old has seen the story on social media and he has since been questioning the whereabouts of his father”.
“This makes me uncomfortable and restless. I am pleading on the security operatives to tamper justice with mercy to release my husband,” she pleaded.
Meanwhile, the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at KNUST has since apologised and called for the release of their colleague on the basis that mid-semester exams is less than two weeks away, hence he might academically be affected if his release is not effected on time.
