The Director of Public Health of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Badu Sarkodie, says his outfit is liaising with the Ghana Education Service (GES) for a consideration to have all students screened before admission into senior high schools (SHSs).
This decision comes in the wake of deaths recorded at Kumasi Academy Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.
Four students have died in the past four days with the cause yet to be known.
Though many attributed it to meningitis, initial tests have proven otherwise with bacterial infection said to be the cause.
Speaking on 3FM’s Late Edition hosted by Alfred Ocansey, on Tuesday, Dr Badu Sarkodie said the screening will involve minimum urine tests of students.
“The idea is to improve on school health and make it optional.”
He also indicated that though results of tests conducted at Kumasi Academy SHS proved that the cause is not meningitis, a second test will be conducted for the same suspicion.

There was confusion earlier in the school when parents stormed the campus to take their wards home.
But calm has since been restored.
A mass vaccination is expected to be conducted in the next three days after which the school may be shut down.
