Oil and gas service provider Southey Contracting Limited, which operates in the Western Region, has donated 320 mono desks to the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly to be given to basic and junior high schools within the municipality.
The donation forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
In a speech, the Financial Director for Southey Contracting Limited, Dafina Ocran, indicated that the company is not only into maintenance but also giving back to the society in which it operates.
“Generally, we are into maintenance services, fabrication, painting, installations, fabric maintenance, corrosion prevention and all sort of works in the engineering field but Southey as a Company is not all about maintenance, we believe in giving back to the society.
“Having its operational office in Takoradi, we thought it is a good to place to give back to the society. This will not be our only project but as part of our corporate social responsibility, education and health is key for us for this year,” she said.
On his part, the Municipal Director of Education, Mark Adatekey, expressed immense gratitude to Southey Contracting Limited for the support.
“The situation of furniture in our municipality is really very crucial and government cannot shoulder the entire scope and burden of education since education is a shared responsibility now,” he said.
“We see all companies that are operating on our soil as our shareholders and we appreciate the expression that has been demonstrated by Southey Company to us and we receive it with much gratitude,” he added.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, Henrietta Mary Eyison, appreciated the effort of the oil and gas service provider, saying the Assembly “now see Southey as their development partner who has come to help develop the Ahanta West Municipality and that they receive the desks and ask that the company come to their aid any time they need their assistance”.
The Petroleum Commission’s Monitoring Unit led by Regional Manager Alfred Ayah urged the firm to do well to involve local manufacturers when it comes to embarking on corporate social responsibility projects to create jobs for the local communities.
