Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II embarked on an inspection tour of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Wednesday barely 10 days after students vandalized property to protest claimed brutalities against them. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the Chancellor of the University, was out of the country when ensuing incidents from the students’ action occurred. The University was closed down indefinitely while the Governing Council was dissolved by government, which has since made a U-turn and deferred to the Asantehene. On Wednesday, the King of the Ashanti Kingdom inspected the state of property at the school. Already, destroyed items have been estimated at between GH¢1.6 million and GH¢1.7 million.

The University is expected to bounce back to life by Thursday, November 8 while the Governing Council is expected to be reconstituted by the Chancellor by Friday, November 2. In the company of the Asantehene on the tour was his vice, Professor Kwasi Obiri Danso, who has been fingered as cause of the students’ protest. Some called for his resignation while government asked him to step aside, a decision which was also reversed. His colleague vice chancellors were also on the tour. Spokesperson of Vice Chancellors-Ghana Prof John Gyapong, who is also VC for University of Health and Allied Sciences, commended Otumfuo and said they met him on the happenings. He said they have agreed to consider the report of the investigative committee into the incidents in order to avoid it recurring not only at KNUST but at other universities. Source: 3news.com|Ghana]]>
