Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah[/caption] Renowned scholar and educationist Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah has underscored the importance of moral education in Ghana’s educational system. According to the Professor, any education that does not lead people to God is not the best for the moral upbringing of children. “If we leave God out of our education, we will still produce graduates but we can’t manage them,” he stressed. The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba and chairman of the committee that led the education reforms in 2002, urged policy makers to place premium on morals in enhancing the education system. Professor Anamuah-Mensah, who was speaking at a Media General’s news lecture on Monday, bemoaned the disregard of morality by the current generation. The lecture was under the theme ‘Has the current education system served the best interest of THE Ghanaian child?’ Professor Anamuah-Mensah said providing a holistic education plays a vital role in rendering people useful, productive and responsible in society. This he said formed the basis of recommendations made in 2002 with emphasis on moral education at all levels, revitalizing moral and ethical values to address moral declines in society.
