According to the MP for Assin, Kennedy Agyapong, it is high time Ghanaians repurpose vocational training to aid national development. He cited the technical and vocational skillfulness of the Ewes as an essential national skill that needed to be adopted by all ethnicities in the country.

Kennedy Agyapong mourned the steady erosion of the representation of technical and vocational skills in the educational system. He called for a reboot to set the economy back on the industrial path.

“The Voltarians, whether you like it or not you, can’t take it away from them. You can choose to be jealous, but you can’t compete with an Ewe on the technical front. We have to accept it. Before, we used to make fun of them that they don’t go to school. And when they did, they are very bright students. The Ewe guys the things they can do with their hands. I respect them for that no two ways about it. So we Akans should also emulate them so we can move this country. One thing I have noticed in Ghana is that our technical class is missing.”

He pointed out that turning practical technical schools into theoretical universities is not the best. He asked that we bring that back to fill the middle gap in the hierarchy of development. He pointed out that this would decrease the employment rate in the country as graduates would easily find non-white collar jobs.

“I don’t understand why I sit here and speak a lot, and a Ghanaian will graduate from the university and remain unemployed. But my child will graduate on Saturday and on Tuesday would start working.”

He also advised the youth to be honest and hardworking in every facet of life that they find themselves.
