Education think-tank Education Policy Institute Africa (EDUPA) has commended the Ghana Education Service (GES) and, indeed, authorities at Adisadel College for the prompt action taken over the viral video that captures two students involved in a violent act.

The students have been suspended while the Housemaster has also been interdicted after preliminary investigations into the incident, which is said to have occurred on Friday, June 30.

EDUPA described the incident as “unacceptable”, highlighting how the country’s education system must foster an environment where students feel safe, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.

“Moving forward, we call upon the GES to develop comprehensive policies and protocols that will prevent such incidents from occurring in the first place,” EDUPA said in its statement signed by Executive Secretary Mark Ewusi Arkoh.

“We emphasize the need for widespread training and awareness programs to equip educators and stakeholders with the skills and knowledge necessary to create a nurturing and inclusive environment for our students.”

The policy institute encouraged parents, guardians and civil society at large to actively engage in protecting the welfare of students and reporting any incidents of abuse as well as supporting any measures aimed at ensuring a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.

EDUPA pledged support to the GES and other relevant stakeholders in their  “efforts to strengthen our education system and ensure the holistic development and well-being of our students”.
