The Energy Minister, John Jinapor, has dismissed reports which claimed that government is intends to sell state-power distributor, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Speaking to the media during a working visit to the West African Gas Pipeline Company Station in Tema on February 21, Jinapor clarified that government is only exploring private sector partnership to ensure efficiency and financial sustainability of ECG.
He insisted such claims are entirely untrue.
“The news items, the publication and the commentary by some people who should know better that we are selling ECG. It’s not true; it will not be sold, but we want some private sector participation to bring about the high level of efficiency, reduce the losses, increase the revenue base so that we can pay for some of these bills we are talking about,” Mr. Jinapor stated.
Mr Jinapor emphasised that introducing private sector participation would help reduce losses and increase revenue, ultimately ensuring that citizens can afford their electricity bills.
“It will not be sold, but we want private sector involvement to improve efficiency, reduce losses, and strengthen the revenue base so that we can meet our financial obligations,” he added.
