EC worried political parties in Ghana have sub-standard accounts

Jean Mensa[/caption] The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has observed that the quality of the audited accounts of some political parties it has received as required by law do not meet international standards. All political parties in the country are required under the law to annually file their returns and audited accounts to the elections management body. But as of Wednesday, February 6, 2019, the EC disclosed some parties were yet to do so. It, however, noted in a statement issued after an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting Wednesday that some parties have already submitted their accounts, some of which it observed were sub-standard. “The Commission noted that a number of the audited accounts received to date fall short international standards,” a statement signed by EC Commissioner, Jean Mensa said. It has thus urged the other parties to also submit their accounts in the coming week. “On the issue of the submission of Political Party returns and Audited Accounts, the Commission entreated Political Parties which had not submitted their accounts to do so by the 13^th of February,2019,” the stated indicated. Meanwhile, the EC has condemned the violence that occurred during the Ayawaso West  Wuogon by-election and urged political parties to deal with their vigilante groups.
