“But while we are doing that, we are evaluating all the submissions we have received, particularly submissions towards cleaning up of the register and we are going to put a team together to look into this.”
Charlotte Osei, the Chairperson of the Commission, made this known on Wednesday, September 30 while addressing journalists on the outcome of an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting earlier in the day.
The meeting was to decide on the way forward regarding allegations that the current register is bloated.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is leading the demand for a replacement of the current register, alleging that there are at least 76,000 Togolese in it.
“We are getting independent outside expertise to look into these allegations,” Mrs Osei indicated.
A forum has been scheduled for the end of October to allow the various stakeholders including the political parties to make inputs into the way forward.
“…we always must be fair and balanced to our approach and we must make sure that we are acting within the law and in the best interest of this country.”
