The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has relieved two temporary officials arrested in the Savannah Region on Friday, July 17 of their positions. The two – Mumuni Abilla Yusif and Mohammed Yushaw – are alleged to have smuggled their biometric voter registration (BVR) kits from Tantulani in the North East Gonja District in the Savannah Region to Viting in the Northern Region. They were handed over to the police, who immediately launched investigations into the arrest. Twelve persons are said to have been registered on the BVR kits at the time of arrest. A statement issued by the EC on Saturday said it is working with the security agencies “to ensure that the suspects are made to face the full rigours of the law”. It said the BVR kits are, however, still in the custody of the police. “The Commission wishes to assure the general public that it will not shield any of its staff, temporary or permanent, who find themselves on the wrong side of the law.” Source: 3news.com|Ghana]]>
