The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has added its voice to calls for Ghana to get a new register for the 2016 elections.

It, however, insisted on not only a new voters’ register but a credible one.

Making a presentation at a stakeholders’ forum organised by the Electoral Commission (EC) on the way forward as regards the register, a Deputy Communications Director of the party, Yaw Adu-Larbi, argued that a credible elections next year will require a replacement of the current roll.

CPP was the third political party to make a presentation at the two-day forum.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) – which sparked the discussion on the register – was the first political party to make a presentation inside the Alisa Hotel in Accra. They had come after the Ghana Institute of Public Policy Options (GIPPO), which was led by Chief Policy Analyst Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby to make the first presentation.

The NPP insisted that the register should be replaced as the flaws were unquantifiable.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) was the second political party to make a presentation, calling for an audit of the register instead of the “wild goose chase” suggestion of the NPP.

CPP’s stance is seen as a side to NPP’s.
