E/R: 8 illegal miners including the financier arrested

8 illegal miners arrested at Amuano Prasso in the Birim North District of the Eastern region[/caption] The anti-galamsey taskforce, Operation Vanguard, Friday, May 25, arrested 8 persons at Amuano Prasso in the Birim  North District of the Eastern region suspected to be engaging in illegal mining activities. Among the suspects was one Nana Baffour, aged 46 years, believed to be the sponsor of the illegal mining activities. The rest include, Benjamin Nsiah,  23 years, Adam Tamime, 49 years, Nkrumah Robert,43 years, Daniel Mensah, 29 years, Gado Timolda,  32 years, Eric Kofi Boamah, 38 years and Isaac Dadazie 28 years. The Eastern Forward Operating Base (FOB) of Operation Vanguard reportedly chanced on freshly dug soils with sounds from working changfan machines which prompted them to lay ambush and arrest three on the Pra River with changfans. Items retrieved by the team include 2 excavators, 1 Mitsubishi Pick-up with registration number GE 3885 – 14, one Nissan Almera Vehicle with registration number GT 4239 – 13 and other mining equipment.
