The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has said it has held several technical sessions with charging entities for the e-levy in order to ensure a successful implementation of the policy.

The GRA assured the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to make the implementation smooth.

A statement issued on Saturday April 30 said “The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to inform the public that the implementation of the Electronic Transfer Levy Act (Act1075) will commence on Sunday May 1.

“The GRA has held several technical sessions and engagements with the charging entities on the implementation of the e-levy with the aim of ensuring that the charging entities are in a position to implement the levy by the due date.

“The authority assures the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the smooth implementation of the levy. We encourage the general public to contact the authority.”

The GRA earlier asked charging entities for the e-levy implementation to ensure that wrong deductions are reversed smoothly.

The authority made this order in its administrative guidelines for the implementation of the policy which was published on Friday April 29.

On Friday April 29, the authority published the full administrative guidelines on the implementation of the e-levy.

The document lists the areas in financial transactions that are covered under the policy and the areas that are not.

The e-levy is expected to start on May 1.

“We had some meetings with Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and they have said right at the beginning of May they should be able to put their system together,” the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta told TV3’s Roland Walker in Parliament after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered the State of the Nation Address on Wednesday March 3.

The GRA on Thursday April 28 modified the phased-approach for the implementation of the e-levy starting May 1.

In a statement, the GRA said “Following the Ghana Revenue Authority’s assessment of the general readiness of some Charging Entities to integrate with the E-levy Management System, the Commissioner General has decided on a modified phased approach for the implementation of the e-levy from 1st May.”
