The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Water Resources and Housing has likened the drought situation in Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region to the 1983 drought which caused severe famine in the country.

Mr. David Tetteh Assumeng who is also the Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku constituency in the Greater Accra Region bemoaned, “It is not a good situation. It is very unpalatable situation which can be likened to the 1983 drought.”

The Chairman of the Select Committee was speaking on Onua FM’s Yensempa hosted by Kwame Karikari on the findings of the Committee’s visit to the Nsawam-Adoagyiri water project currently ongoing in the area.

Shortage of water has hit the area for over a month now due to the dring of the Densu River which serves as the source of water for the people of the area.

Mr. Tetteh Assumeng said “they have a serious challenge and the people of that area are going through hell. It is not a good issue to talk about and we hope for divine intervention for rainfall so that we can have rains so that water can flow in the area”.
