Road Transport Operators has issued a directive to all drivers, of taxis, trotros and buses, to with effect from Saturday, August 1, reduce the recently adjusted fares.
Fares were increased by 15 per cent across board on Saturday, July 11.
According to drivers, the increase then was due to the restrictions placed on transport operators by government in the bid to slow the spread of coronavirus.
But on Sunday, July 26, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo eased the restrictions on the number of passengers to be allowed in vehicles by announcing that taxis, trotros and buses can allow full occupancy.
Road Transport Operators met and issued a communique to members, first of all commending government for the recent decision.
“From 1st August, 2020m the 15% increase in public transport fares which took effect on 11th July, 2020 has been adjusted downward to Five Percent (5%),” the communique directed.
“This is to accommodate for the operational losses incurred during the period of the lockdown and the social distancing protocols.”
