Driver’s brain gushes out as he crashes vehicle after failed overtaking

One person was crashed to death Thursday when a mini bus he was driving, was involved in an accident at Ntankoful, a community along the Apollo–Nkroful highway in Takoradi in the Western Region. Two colleagues who were also in the 207 Mercedez Benz bus with registration number BA 390-P, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital at Sekondi. The deceased, who is believed to be in his early 30s, was on his way to distribute provisions and toiletries to customers when he lost control of the steering after a failed overtaking and crashed into the metal railings on the side of the road. According to eyewitnesses, driver of the vehicle which was moving from Anaji area, attempted to overtake a vehicle in front of him but had to abort it midway when he suddenly saw another vehicle approaching. He quickly applied brakes in an attempt to move back into his lane but lost control of the wheels due to the load, causing the vehicle to ram into a metal railing. [caption id="attachment_88803" align="aligncenter" width="900"] It took the efforts of Police and Fire personnel as well as some residents to remove the body of the driver[/caption] The accident, which occurred at about 1:00pm Thursday, caused the vehicle to fall on its left side and crushed the head of the driver, killing him instantly, eyewitnesses told Connect FM. It took the combined efforts of some residents, personnel from the Police and the Ghana National Fire service to retrieve his mutilated body from the mangled vehicle. A taxi driver who witnessed the accident also said he head a sudden boom sound only to see the vehicle on its side, adding, “two people quickly came out of it but the driver was trapped and his brain had gushed out”. Some eyewitnesses blamed the deceased for the accident, and called on road authorities to construct speed ramps on the road due to the level of over speeding on that stretch, especially by Metro Mass Transit bus drivers.
