The outgoing Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, has advised his successor, Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, to pursue his own vision for the Trust.

In his farewell note to the staff, Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang charged the incoming SSNIT boss to do things his way because that is the only way he can succeed.

He said, “And now, to your new soon-to-be Ag. DG. We started this journey together. You’ve also been here for 7 years—as long as I’ve been here. So you know the ropes. You know how this place works. So I’m sure you’ll be fine.”

Dr. Ofori-tenkornag said, “So DDG-IDD [Deputy Director General in charge of Investment Development], soon to be Ag. DG, I’ll tell you the same. Do it your way,” citing a 2006 response by former Ghanaian UN Secretary-General late Kofi Annan to reporters on what he told his successor, Ban Ki-Moon.

“And now to the DDGs, Managers, and Staff, I ask you to offer Mr. Osafo Maafo your full support as he executes his vision for the Trust as you did for me. In fact, support him even more than you did for me so that we can consolidate and build on the successes that we have chalked so far together,” he added.

The outgoing Director-General also assured the staff of the Trust that he will remain part of them under the leadership of the newly appointed Director-General, Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo.

He stressed that seven years of his life have been spent with the Trust, and thus he remains a part of them.

“Seven years of my life is here, so I remain part of you”, said Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang.

“I’ll be praying for you, cheering you on to attain higher heights. And I’ll be sharing and rejoicing in your triumphs and successes.  We must succeed and SSNIT must succeed and grow from strength to strength.  For the benefit of all those on whose sweat and toil this country is built,” he added.

It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, April 9, terminated the appointment of Dr. Ofori Tenkorang. In his stead, the President appointed Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, the son of the former senior minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo.

Osafo-Maafo’s appointment resulted in Pearl Nana Ama Darko, the Deputy Director General for Operations and Benefits, being reassigned to the role of Commissioner for Support Services at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Juliana Kpedekpo, therefore, took over from Pearl Nana Ama as the new Deputy Director General for Operations and Benefits.
