The Northern Regional Police PRO Yussif Tanko said the incident happened on 23rd June 2019 at about 11:30pm. Police personnel were dispatched to Singa where the suspects were being kept at the chief’s palace by residents, the police said. According to the police, when the suspects were questioned, three of them denied the allegation. However, the other two admitted to travelling to Singa on a motorbike on June 23 around 6pm to look for a white guinea fowl for their group’s rituals at Tali No. 1 near Daboya. The victim Gafaru Tonga was said to have been contacted by the suspects to direct them to a Fulani man’s house where they can get the guinea fowl to buy. The victim was picked on a motorbike by the suspects, the police said, but they sped off and failed to stop on reaching the village where the Fulani man resides. The victim then raised an alarm but the suspects went into hiding until 10pm when they were seen on three motorbikes heading towards Daboya. They were subsequently arrested and sent to the chief’s house by some members of the community. The three motorbikes and five mobile phones retrieved from the suspects have been kept as exhibits.
