He also confirmed that the merger talks will still have resumed if both Nkrumahist parties had performed differently – better than they did – in the 2012 Election.
Mr Wilson made these known on TV3’s News@10 on Monday, December 17, 2012.
He revealed that the “energy and commitment” that have been shown by the two parties regarding their merger “has not been seen before”.
He explained that their performance during the 2012 Election may have prompted them to go back to the “roundtable to implement terms of the ‘Unity Talks’”.
Mr Wilson said the long-awaited merger did not see the light of day prior to the 2012 Election because they were “constrained by legal issues”.
“The Unity Committee will have more time next year to solve all those legal issues,” he said.
“The plan is that by the end of 2013, maximum, the merger should take place.”
He mentioned that the two parties failed to make an impression in the 2012 General Election because they did not meet the three factors that worked out well for some parties – platform, candidate and message.
“The NDC and the NPP had the platform to promote their candidates and their message.”
National Organizer of the CPP Abu Fogor, who joined in via phone, stated that:
“It is clear that until we come together we won’t make any headway in Elections.”
He said the fears that one party will be overshadowed by the other should be dispelled.
“The Unity Talks has become a non-negotiable act,” he said.
The two agreed that discussions of the Talks will be taken out of the media limelight.
