CPP member sure Akufo-Addo gov’t will be corrupt

A senior member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah, says no one can convince him the Akufo-Addo-led government will be without corruption at the end of its tenure. Mr Jantuah called it a shame how successive governments have been cited for corruption. “If this government is saying that they are fighting corruption, then at the end of their term we shouldn’t see any of their people involved in corruption.” The CPP member was contributing to discussions on TV3’s New Day on Saturday. ‘Beast called corruption’ He bemoaned the lack of political will by government-after-government to fight corruption in the country. He says the state institutions charged with the responsibility to fight the “beast called corruption” have gone to sleep. “I will say and from what we have seen from other political parties that have come and gone, I will be right in saying that when the term of this government ends, we will see corruption at the end which is a shame. “It is a shame for this government to come to its end and you will see that some of the things that they did, corruption is written all over them,” he said on the programme. The discussion was on the latest exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Titled ‘Number 12: When Misconduct & Greed Become A Norm’, the documentary, which will be screened on Wednesday and Thursday, has already ruffled some feathers. Some politicians notably Kennedy Agyapong have questioned the journalist’s modus operandi. READ: ‘Let’s stop Anas before he gets into our bedrooms’ – Kennedy Agyapong pleads But Mr Jantuah wants Mr Aremeyaw Anas commended for his work, observing that whether his modus operandi is right or wrong should be another question. “It behoves on the government in power to put the right structures in place [in fight against corruption].” Kofi Adams, a national executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), called for support for Anas but he said state bodies tasked to fight corruption are also doing their bit albeit not in the same media limelight like the journalist’s.
