Polls have closed in the Talensi Constituency of the Upper East Region, TV3 can confirm.

Sorting out of the ballots has begun across the 74 polling stations of the constituency, TV3’s Rabiu Tanko Mohammed says.

Eight candidates contested Tuesday’s by-elections to get a successor to Robert Nachinab Mosore, who resigned to take up the paramountcy of Tongo.

The frontrunners in the by-election are National Democratic Congress’ Benson Tongo Baba and New Patriotic Party’s Thomas Duanab Wuni.

Counting has begun already in some polling stations with results trickling in.

The first results from our reporter gives NPP’s candidate a win.

At the Wakii Primary A, NPP’s Wuni polled 186 votes against BT Baba’s 170. There were 10 rejected ballots.

People’s National Convention’s candidate had 17 votes with Progressive People’s Party’s candidate polling 11 votes.
