As part of the fight against corruption the Attorney General’s department should be separated from the Ministry of Justice, the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Dr Eric Oduro Osae has said.

This is a call he has been making over the years as part of his suggestions towards the war against graft.

On Tuesday, July 26, the Afrobarometer report which was released by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) placed the Office of the Presidency second on the list of institutions or offices perceived to be corrupt.

The Police was first, according to the survey.

Members of Parliament were placed third while the judiciary fell at the fourth pace

Sharing his views on this matter on Ghana Tonight with Alfred Ocansey on TV3, Tuesday July 26, Dr Oduro Osae said it only strict application of anti-corruption laws in the country that will reduce the practice to the lowest level.

This he said makes case for the AG to bedecoupled from the Ministry of Jystice in order to give the Attirney the power to deal with corprut appointees.

“I will insist that we separate the Attorney General from the Ministry of Justice,” he stressed.

“We should double or efforts in fighting corruption. A lot of people still don’t understand the intricacies of corruption and its impact. It also tells me that a lot of education is needed. It is a wake up call for us to double our efforts towards the fight against corruption,” he added.
