Contractors working on the Yelwa, Nguan Dushi, Jonkponto, Nguan Mallam, and Iddipe, electricity extension project have returned to site.

In a significant development for the Salaga South Constituency, electricity extension projects that had faced delays since 2020, are now set to resume following successful intervention by the former Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Adam Salifu Braimah.

Between 2017-2019, extension of electrification contracts were secured by the former Member of Parliament.

Over ten communities including; SSNIT bungalows, Kakoshi Chakosi, Klaw, Kunshi, Dagbambia, Yahayilli were to benefit.

While progress was made in certain areas, shortages of critical materials plagued communities such as; Yelwa, Nguan Dushi, Jonkponto, Nguan Mallam, and Iddipe, resulting in a temporary work stoppage.

After some three years of inactivity, negotiations in Accra between the former Member of Parliament with the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with Municipal Chief Executive for East Gonja Richard Broni, has yielded positive results.

In a move towards revitalizing the project initiated in 2019, the former MP Salifu Adam Braimah, led the contractor back to the project site.

He admonished the contractor to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

“This project is very dear to the people here and its completion will not only serve domestic impact, but also boost economic activities of the people.”

“It’s unfortunate that the contract stalled along the way, but thankfully you are back and we want you to work extra hard to meet the contract schedule.“

He intimated that the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government remains committed towards providing the needed infrastructure expansion of all sectors that will address major challenges and this is no exception.

The contractor assured of quality work and promised to meet the contract deadline.

Rural electrification

Since 2017, the former Member of Parliament and first Savannah Regional Minister, has commissioned over 30 rural electrification projects in the Salaga South Constituency.

Before assuming office in 2017, not a single community out of over 70 communities in the Abrumase area was connected to the national grid.

But now, over 60 percent of communities in that enclave including several others in the Kafaba, Sisipe, Massaka, yayilli electoral areas have electricity.
