Some concerned officers of the Ghana Police Service are calling on the government to intervene and revert the interdiction of some 21 police officers who were involved in the Manso-Nkwanta shooting incident which lead to the killing of seven. The report of the five-member committee which was set-up to investigate the shooting incident at Manso-Nkwanta in the Ashanti region revealed the seven persons who were killed by the police in July were not robbers as reported earlier. Read: Manso-Nkwanta police shooting: 7 persons killed were not robbers – Report Consequently, the government directed the police administration to interdict all twenty-one (21) police personnel involved in the incident, and subject them to formal Police Criminal Investigation. But the concern police, some of whom are affected by the interdiction have objected the decision of the government, claiming the investigation that led government’s decision was an “armed chaired investigation and failed to investigate the matter properly”. According to the concern police, they believe the investigations fell short in the following ways: “1. Government failed to add a police officer to the investigative body.
- The committee failed to take statements from the personnel.
- The committee failed to interrogate and interview the personnel.
- The crime scene and the unit was not visited by the committee.”
