The Christian Council of Ghana has called on the Electoral Commission to be independent and engage various stakeholders in an effort to get a credible voters’ register for the 2016 general elections.

It, therefore, advises the Commission to engage electorates not political parties in the acquisition of that credible register.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 4, the Council emphasized that the a credible register will erode doubts and ensure that electorates have confidence in the electoral process ahead of next year’s elections.

“The Electoral Commission must further ensure that, we (religious bodies) and other stakeholders are not only engaged in the process of ensuring a CREDIBLE Voters Register but the outcome of the process as we work towards a CREDIBLE Register,” the statement signed by the General Secretary, reverend Dr Stephen Opuni-Frimpong said.

“As an ecumenical body, we will continue to remain neutral and non-partisan in all our engagements on national issues as partners in nation building.”
