It is also to spur the Chief Imam on to continue his peace crusade, particularly in the Muslim communities in the country, as Ghana prepares for the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Chief Imam is among a number of people to be honoured by the Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council of Ghana for their contribution in ensuring peace before, during and after the 2012 elections and the subsequent election petition judgement. He was given a citation, a plague and a Holy Quran.
“The role of the National Chief Iman and Grand Mufti of the Republic of Ghana before, during and after the Supreme Court verdict of the 2012 election petition is a worthy inheritance for generations to come,” the citation read in part.
It also commended the Muslim community in general for “upholding the tenets of peace and unity in Ghana during the season. Ghana counts on your wisdom for the 2016 elections.”
Presenting the citation, the leader of the Prophets and Spiritual Churches, Prophet N’akoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson lauded the Chief Imam for his crusade for peace over the years, noting he has upheld the pillars of peace during before, during and after the Supreme Court decision on the election petition on August 29, 2014.
“Your treasured words of wisdom, stately advice and priceless words of peace gave hope and kept the nation together during the time Ghana needed a voice worth listening…The nation and people of Ghana are highly honoured to have his eminence as our national chief imam,” Prophet N’akoa said.
He said the award to the Chief Imam is also to demonstrate that the nation appreciates its elderly people whose counsel are sough whenever the need arises, adding “their counsel keep our heats at peace always”
Prophet N’akoa Ansah Jamson also used the occasion to commiserate with those whose relatives lost their lives in the Mecca disaster during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
Chief Imam in receiving the award commended the Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council of Ghana for the gesture, which he said, is a testimony of peaceful co-existence irrespective of one’s spiritual faith.
He assured all that of his commitment to preach peace and peaceful co-existents in the country to ensure the nation progresses.
