Charlotte Osei summoned by Parliament over journalists’ accreditation fees

The Commission collected monies for voters’ ID card replacements[/caption] The Chair of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, is expected to appear before Parliament’s Committee of the Whole next week to answer questions on revenue accrued from the collection of accreditation fees from journalists prior to the 2016 elections. Journalists were made to pay GH¢10 each for accreditation and tags to cover the December 7 elections, which was eventually won by New Patriotic Party’s Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Not even a tussle in court, initiated by a group of journalists, will get the Commission to budge on its stance. The legislative would also find out how much the Commission collected from payments for replacement of lost and damaged voters’ ID cards. How these fees were applied would also be found out from Mrs Osei. These were made known on the floor on Friday, when Majority Leader Osei-Keyi Mensa-Bonsu read the business statement for the Ninth Week.
