Archbishop Matthias Kobena Nketsiah’s resignation was announced on Friday[/caption] The Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most Rev. Matthias Kobena Nketsiah has resigned as the head of the Catholic Church in Cape Coast in the Central Region. His resignation has been accepted by the head of the Catholic Church worldwide, Pope Francis. He would be replaced by Most Rev. Charles Palmer-Buckle, a press statement issued by Most Rev. Jean Marie Speich, the Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana said on Friday. “His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of His Grace Archbishop Matthias Nketsiah of Cape Coast and has appointed His Grace Most Rev. Charles Palmer-Buckle as the new Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cape Coast. The release was however silent on the reason the Archbishop assigned to his resignation. Most Rev. Matthias Kobena Nketsiah was born on April 14, 1942. He was ordained Priest of Cape Coast on July 19, 1970 at the age of 28 by then Bishop Peter Kwasi Sarpong in his capacity as the Bishop of Kumasi, and rose through the rank to become the Archbishop of Cape Coast.
