Over 2,000 transit truck drivers who have loaded cargo from the Tema Port and en route to neighbouring countries Monday night picketed inside the transit terminal.

The drivers were resisting an order from the Port’s authorities that they should stop sleeping inside and under their vehicles at the terminal.

The confusion on Monday created tension with drivers resisting 100 port security officials, police and the military.

By 2am Tuesday, more military officers had to be deployed as drivers pelted stones at the security officers.

The drivers defended their action, saying port authorities have failed to provide a sleeping place and washroom at the new park and they can’t rent a place within their short stay.
