The Member of Parliament Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region has called on Ghanaian businesses to take advantage of the new Ghana-Denmark relationship instead of focusing on what transpired between these two countries in the past.

Mr. Anthony Effah is urging the country to strengthen its ties with Denmark, which is far advanced in a number of areas that businesses in Ghana can tap into.

The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa MP was contributing to discussions on TV3 New Day hosted by Bright Nana Amfohon Friday on the Queen Margethe II of Denmark’s visit to Ghana with a business delegation.

The supreme authority of the Church of Denmark and Commander-in-Chief of the Danish Defence was received at the Kotoka International Airport by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday .

Mr. Effah said “let us start a new relationship. A new relationship that will create trade because we will have some support from Denmark”.

“We should let go the notion that Denmark traded slaves in Ghana because we can have so much to derive from Denmark to feed ourselves, to develop our education sector, trade, investment and others”.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Yaw Appiah-Kubi, said it is a fact that Africa suffered due to the slave trade, but that should not be a stumbling block for its development.

“In moving forward, we need to recall what contributed to that because Africa has suffered over five centuries of slave trade..

“The major driver of that was economy. They came to look for resources that were beneficial to them and what we need to find out is, has that drive gone away… We have some form of political freedom but economically we are not free”.
