New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Alfred Kojo Thompson has accused the Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency of embarking on a mission just to paint the Akufo-Addo government black.

He said from his pursuit of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s foreign travels on rented jets to the National Cathedral project, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa only wants to tag the first gentleman of the land corrupt.

“He used to be Baby Jet, now Cathedral is his baby,” he said, referring to the MP as ‘Bishop Cathedral’.

Mr Thompson was speaking on TV3‘s New Day on Monday, May 8 after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker spoke on his alleged exposés on the National Cathedral project following his trip to the United States of America (USA).

On Monday, May 8, Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa released Episode 4 of his publication, accusing the registered directors of the National Cathedral of Ghana and the Bible Museum Foundation, Inc of lawlessness in not filing their tax returns for the past two years.

He posted on his official Twitter page that all the three directors – Dr Vernon Darko, Eric Okyere Darko and Dr Paul Opoku-Mensah – have failed to file their tax returns since May 3, 2021.

“Governors/Directors of Not-for-profits who are transparent, accountable and do not engage in diversion of funds raised for personal gain have no difficulty filing their returns,” the former Deputy Education Minister wrote.

“It is also noteworthy that those who abuse their organisations and use them for nefarious activities such as money laundering are those more likely to default in filing their returns.”

Mr Thompson said all these attempts to target the National Cathedral project despite responses from the Secretariat and consequently draw in the government are aimed at painting it black.

“[Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa] tells you that he is on a mission just to make sure to paint government black.”

He said the modus operandi of the MP is even questionable as any well-intentioned lawmaker would have consulted the Secretariat after any discoveries.

But Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr Thompson noted, rather enjoys going to town with every and anything he picks up.

“Even if it is gari he finds at the US office, he will say there is corruption.”
