AWW Violence: Akufo-Addo receives Short Commission report

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has received the report of the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry, which was set up by the government to investigate the infamous violence which characterised the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections of January 31. Following the incident, which was widely reported to have been orchestrated by masked men believed to be a pro-NPP vigilante group, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on behalf of the president set up a Commission of Inquiry under the chairmanship of former CHRAJ boss, Justice Emile Short, and given one month to probe the cause of the violence, among other things, and make recommendations. After about 15 sittings, hearing from people and institutions who played key roles in the by-election, the Commission presented its report to the President at the Jubilee House Thursday, March 14. While the president was glad receiving the report, which contains findings and recommendations, the Commission also expressed its gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in it. The President assured the Commission and Ghanaians that the government will study the content, findings and recommendations of the report, and, in accordance with Article 280 of the Constitution, ensure that the relevant decisions taken on the report are communicated to the general public.
