Atuabo Gas Plant to be shut down from Thursday

The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant would be shutdown for planned maintenance works from 1st February 2018, the Ghana National Gas Company has announced. “This outage is consistent with other shutdowns planned by our upstream and downstream partners,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday asking gas producers, power consumers and the general public to take note. The shutdown will allow engineers at the plant to undertake routine maintenance on the facility to help improve the plant’s capacity as well as prolong its lifespan, the statement said. The Atuabo Gas Plant is expected to resume operation on February 25, 2018. “All key stakeholders including, Ghana Gas, Tullow Oil, EM, Volta River Authority (VRA), and Marinus have put in place the necessary mechanisms to reduce the shutdown duration, which would have taken a total of 55 days to 25 days”. The statement signed by Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah, Head of Communications, explained that during the shutdown, expansion works would be carried out on the Regulating and Metering Station (RMS) infrastructure at Takoradi, which would help increase gas handling capacity from the current 135 mmscf/d to 405 mmscf/d.
